SPECIMEN PROFILE

Tlatolophus galorum was a large lambeosaurine hadrosaurid that inhabited the lush coastal plains of Late Cretaceous Mexico. Described from the remarkably complete Cerro del Pueblo Formation specimen, it represents one of the southernmost known members of the crest-bearing hadrosaur lineage in North America.

Its most distinctive feature was its enormous, hatchet-shaped cranial crest, extending backward from the skull and giving the animal an unmistakable profile. The crest likely functioned as a resonating structure for vocal communication, allowing individuals to produce deep calls that could travel across open floodplain environments. Like other hadrosaurids, Tlatolophus possessed an efficient dental battery for processing vegetation and likely lived within social groups where communication played an important role.
